Well, if you haven't kept up with the news lately, we have a pretty big tropical storm barreling our way right now. It looks like it will be a direct hit on us tomorrow morning/afternoon. SO far, it is not a full blown hurricane- but it might be when it hits. I am writing to let all of you know that you may not be able to reach us once it hits. The power will be down- so our land line will be out. It is likely that the winds might take out some cell towers too. Just know that we are safe. We are riding it out in our house- not evacuating. We evacuated last time- and it was a complete pain- so we will take our chances with this one. We cleared out the closet under the stairs and set up a "safe room"- filled with food, water, bedding, first aid, flashlights, etc. We will be filling up our tubs with water tonight. Zane spent most of the day removing potential "Lawn Missles" from the yard at our house. We will be bringing in our dog tonight and we will probably be up all night watching the storm as it approaches.... at least until the power goes out. :-) Zane is funny. He is really excited to ride this thing out. I always swore we would evacuate everytime, but this time he got his way.
It was crazy last night when they put us in the path of the storm, we headed out to get water at 11:30 pm- we got the LAST CASE! Crazy! Today I went back to the store to get an extra flashlight and they were SOLD OUT. I settled for the lightsticks that you pop. I couldn't hardly find a parking space- Walmart was jam packed. It's weird. Prepping for the storm is so much work. In the past, at this point we would be beginning our trek... It is nice and yet eerily calm as we finish our prep work and simply wait for it to hit. We have the tv on, we ate a great dinner (steak!).... Eerily normal...
So- now the waiting game... Hopefully we will only be without power for a short time... they have warned us that it could be as long as 2 weeks if the storm is bad when it hits.... so pray for electricity for us.... it is HOT here, 100 + degrees.... no a/c would be awful. Also, say an extra prayer for our safety and for my parents safety (they evacuated- but not very far b/c of traffic). We will let you all know when things get back to normal here. If you don't hear from us for a while- don't worry- I am sure we are okay... just be patient and once the towers and lines are up, we'll give you a ring. Don't worry about Tonia and Randy and the girls- they are soaking in the sun in Florida.... they just missed the hurricane. (lucky ducks!)
See you on the OTHER SIDE of the STORM!
